I am sorry, I was confused by something on the Wikipedia site. Your naming is an indication of the Greater Roadrunner. The Greater Roadrunner is also known as the Chapparal Cock. Please add Geococcyx californianus as the scientific name. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_Roadrunner Give your neighbor my apologies as well.
Thanks! Actually, no I am not super sure it's the lesser Roadrunner, he was actually very large considering. It was in my back yard just hanging out. My neighbor identified it, I think its more of a common name...I had no idea there were more than one kind of roadrunner.
Are you sure of the name? You have identified this as a Lesser Roadrunner which is distinguished from the Greater Runner by size, bill length, and range. Was this spotting in a zoo and identified as you have named it? Other than the fence (which is always difficult to work with), I think it is a very nice photo.
