Field Notes
Description:
A small to medium-size butterfly from the Piridae family, with a creamy white upperside and black tips to the forewings. This was a good day to photograph this butterfly as there was no direct harsh sunlight whiting out details. The female (shown here) has two black spots in the center of the forewings.
Habitat:
Open places, woodland, meadowland and mountains to urban areas. Widespread distribution: Europe, North Africa and Asia. Has also been accidentally introduced to North America, Australia and New Zealand. Spotted here in an alpine forest near a lake, 1300m ASL.
Notes:
On day day this butterfly was the first one flying again after the rain.
A pest on cabbages, kale, radish, broccoli, and horseradish.
