Field Notes

Description:

An invasive vine that has really taken off in this park by the water. This image shows several plants, most notably the orange flowers, which are not my subject here - that is Spotted Jewelweed / Touch-me-not / Impatiens biflora. My subject here is the vining plant with stacks of blue berries and triangular leaves. Too mixed up to get just one of the plants as my focus!

The plant is in the stage of mostly green berries, with some turning blue and pink and purple.

This plant was formerly known as Polygonum perfoliatum.

Habitat:

Belle Haven Park next to the Potomac River

Notes:

The orange flowers are Jewelweed.

Also "Tear Thumb", and from the spines I've noticed on it, that's an appropriate name!
It is also called Devil's Tail.. A very invasive plant in the tropical north of Australia and the South Pacific!
No worries - I didn't notice it when I revisited, either!
Duh, Ashley....it's clear I didn't even read!! Oooopsy! ;)
Oh - ha - I just noticed I did have that noted under "Notes". But clearly it's not so obvious there. ;-)
You are correct on the orange flowers - I guess I should have mentioned their name above, even though they were not my primary subject in this posting. I'll edit that now. :)
The orange flower looks like Jewelweed or Touch-Me-Nots.... is this the same thing??
