Field Notes

Description:

The White ginger lily (Hedychium coronarium) is originally from the Himalayas region of Nepal and India where it is known as dolan champa दोलन चम्पा in Hindi, দোলনচাঁপা in Bengali, takhellei angouba in Manipuri, Sontakka in Marathi, and suruli sugandhi in Kannada.

Habitat:

Blooms in fall

Notes:

In Cuba it is the National Flower, known as "Mariposa blanca" literally "White Butterfly Flower", due to its similarity with a flying white butterfly. This particular species is incredibly fragrant and women used to adorn themselves with these flowers in Spanish colonial times; because of the intricate structure of the inflorescence, women hid and carried secret messages important to the independence.

Yes, very beautiful!! The women here do not care as much for their beauty as your woman do. Your culture the people take more time to look beautiful with their clothing and jewelry and hair.
Here most of married women like to add them in their hairdo...Across India...!!
Thank you so much!! These flowers are used for fine perfumes! Its a beautiful flower and smell!! :)
Superb shot... feel I can smell it... :)
It's mainly a problem when I try & photograph small bugs. I've just bought a macro adaptor so we shall have to see if that does the trick - all dependent on the bugs hanging around long enough for me to screw the thing on of course! :)
I have the same problem, they told me in the photography club, that I was shooting to close to my subjects, so I am trying to be more careful.
Me too! Autofocus is so convenient but my camera often seems to choose what it wants to focus on which isn't always what I'm trying to capture!
Thank you Karen! I think coming on this website and joining my school photography club is helping brush up my skills, but I do still take blurry photos!! Lol
