Nice spotting, Woodpecker is about start a new Job.
Thank you for that information. I didn't realize how important the pileated woodpeckers are for owls. I will have to look for that book and I understand he has a traveling exhibit.
The pileated is an important accutrement in the wild for Owls. Many owls depend on this woodpecker to make big enuff holes for homemaking 'n such. Check out "The Owl and the Woodpecker" by Paul Banniker great pix and plethora of info on the habitats and interaction of these two species. Beyond the basics one finds in the birding books...nicely fleshed out ~ i really have to learn my trees.
Where was this? I live in Alabama and I've seen a couple. Gorgeous photo. :)
