Field Notes

Description:

Nesting; Dark sooty brown with pale grayish-white crown; wedge shaped tail; slender black bill. This bill appears to be grey/blue

Habitat:

Coastal and oceanic islands during breeding season; open ocean at other times. I buff egg, spotted with lilac and brown, in a stick nest lined with seaweed and often bits of shell and coral, placed on rocks, in trees, or hushes, or on exposed coral reefs.

Notes:

This Brown Noddy was nesting on a exposed coral reef off the island of Spanish Wells, Bahamas.

Species ID Suggestions

Brown Booby

Sula leucogaster

The nesting area was on a huge corral reef rock in the ocean. We were in a boat and the bird would not move no matter how close we got to it. So I guess it was nesting but all I saw was the rock and some branches.
Thanks Satyen for the help! Never heard of a Brown Booby
