Field Notes

Description:

White stalk with one or two shredded remains of rings on it. The visible cap is more or less flat, though that is not so much a brown spot in the middle as the slight depression where more water and dirt has collected than elsewhere on the cap.

Habitat:

This mushroom was found in a forest of the Pacific Northwest. It was a damp, rainy day in what had otherwise been a fairly dry year as far as the fall goes - I was on a guided mushroom hike and the guide could not lead us to many mushrooms, and also added that it was one of the worst years on record for finding mushrooms.

There were several more of this species in the area, but none very close together.
