Liam you are simply amazing!! I am very impressed!
I took care of it (I'm a member of Wikipedia).
Maybe we should write to wikipedia and tell them that this picture does not aid in the identification of The American Black Duck, instead it is totally misleading and confusing and it should be removed.
It is a misleading photo. It should be removed.
Yes ,that is the one which i mean. That looks like the duck in my spotting. Misguiding picture in the wikipedia.
The one with the ducklings? That shot is highly backlit, giving the duck a very dark look.
Yes. Did you see the black neck? Cornell link shows a different pic of the black American duck.
A mistake on the photo?
@Liam,Look at this duck in the wikipedia link. I think that there was a mistake . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Black_Duck
Probably a domestic mallard.
@Emma listen to Liam, like i told you i'am not international duck specialist:-)Liam yes, fantastic knolege, thanks for the corrections
I would just put Mallard. Also, Cayugas are not the hybrids of American Black Ducks and Mallards, they're a domestic breed of duck.
Not an American Black Duck. The American BD shows a very dark body, absolutely no iridescence, and a pale brown-gray neck and head, as well as an eyeline. This is a domestic Mallard hybrid. Definitely has some Cayuga in him. An American Black Duck in Cali would be quite a rare sighting.
good tips Emma,it's my first noah winter:-) i'am open to ideas to discover interesting things to continue some spoting
Winter brings in migratory birds. You can also see the winter plumage of birds. Might be able to track animal paws and foot prints in the snow. Just some ideas.....Might catch a bear hibernating! you never know!
That's how I feel. I love winter, but I keep wondering to myself how I will be able to contribute spottings..lol. But it's a good season around here for deer and birds I suppose.
You can always help out the southern hemisphere people, Antonio - it's summer here. :)
:-)now that the winter his arriving, there will bee less things to spot(my favorite activity in noah,i confess:),but whith less spots, i will have time to dedicate to id's ,so i can "pay", some how, the douzens of id?s that noah people(you includ of course)made to me
The yellow beak differentiates it from the Cayuga which has a black bill.
Thankyou for the Id Mr Ginja. I agree that it is a Black Duck. Will update it.
Emma see this link.maybe is this one american black(Anas rubripes) http://www.google.pt/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=anas%20rubripes&source=web&cd=1&sqi=2&ved=0CCAQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FAmerican_Black_Duck&ei=T-fvTrfCLcOB8gPpmOyjCg&usg=AFQjCNHLGVY5VXVfowbQR1BlctWlhYgmcA
