Field Notes

Description:

Abdomen very convex (curved), giving it a humped appearance. Large pronotum. This beetle bronze is black, pronotum and abdomen punctate.

Habitat:

Forest, associated with dead trees.

Notes:

I noticed this strange beetle climbing a tree, and caught it for further examination. It's a Tenebrionid beetle, though it looks different than the usual beetles, due to its dome. It's the only species in the genus, and can be found at dead trees and stumps that have lichens and mosses growing near them (http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/teneb/m_contracta.htm). Found at Barbara A. Beiser Field Station.
