Harebell
Campanula rotundifolia
48.89, -114.307
Field Notes
Description:
This plant will grow up to .5 meters tall, but this one was much shorterm, probably because it was growing at high altitudes. Typically the flowers have five petals that may be a blueish violet, but may also have pinkish or white petals, which are joined together at the bases to create the "bell" from which the plant gets its name.
Habitat:
This plant was growing alongside a gravel road in the mountains. The area was heavily forested in pines and some spruces.
Notes:
I've found this attractive flower in many places and across a wide swath of North America, often growing out of tiny crevices in rock faces.
