Field Notes

Notes:

I have no idea what this is. It's about 5mm long, white and fluffy-looking. It was on the leaf of an acacia tree. I'm guessing it's something insect-related.

Thanks Martin. Unfortunately I only took the one pic and I haven't seen it again so I can't turn it over... I will remember this for next time.
Shanna. I need a bit more data. I suspect a lerp bug (hemiptera) they look something like this http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/8885130. Otherwise it could be a lacewing larvae, some of these build a cover over themselves like this http://www.ozanimals.com/Insect/Green-Lacewing-larva-1/Chrysopidae%20family/sp1.html Which do you suspect? My curiosity would tempt me to overturn the creature, and this may seem rude but it will recover. I would go for the second option.
I'm afraid I can't help you there Shanna! Martinl is probably your best bet!
KarenL, I think you are probably right... but what kind? (There are so many!) I'll have a good look through the Brisbane Insects and Spiders page, it is such an excellent resource.
Some kind of scale insect perhaps? http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_softbugs/ScaleInsect.htm
