Description:
Slightly smaller, but rounder in profile than the House Sparrow both sexes of this bird have the same markings for the most part. Black bib,eye ring and cheek spot. The cheek spot is surrounded by a white patch, The upper body is brown with black and white feather tips. The lower body is eggshell to light gray.
Habitat:
city parks, suburban areas and farmland
Notes:
Introduced to this country near St. louis, Missouri in 1870, this attractive little sparrow has remained in the area for some time. This sighting may be on the northern end of their range. More study is needed to determine whether or not this species is expanding their range.
