Field Notes

Description:

Large. Heavy. Conical. White with pink markings. There was a tiny cream coloured tube like structure (visible on top right in the second photo) on the undersurface. I could not make out what it was.

Habitat:

Semi hidden in the sand and little pool of water left exposed as the tide receded. I saw the top of the shell and pulled it out, photographed it and put it back. It was very heavy for its size.

Notes:

This shell in a highly polished form is part of my childhood memory; part of a shell display we had. It is now STRICTLY forbidden to remove any shell, bits of coral (anything at all) from the Andaman islands.
