Description:
Grey/brown colouring darker on back, lighter underbody, small sharp beak, yellow/orange legs, ornage wing patch seen in flight, body also takes on rufous colour at certain angles, undertail barred, belly strongly streaked/flecked dark over light, eyes distinctive orange/yellow, white crown. There are five subspecies which have slight variations in colour and patterning.
Habitat:
Found throughout Australia and prefers wooded areas where it forages up and down trees flicking bark in search of insects, usually in small groups moving quickly from place to place. Grows to about 10cm.
