Field Notes

Description:

This is a big mountain parrot, endemic to New Zeland.

Habitat:

Mountain

Notes:

These birds are pretty big and tourists are warned to be aware of their sharp beaks. The first time I saw one of those it was chipping ecstatically over eating a pice of car door lining. There were two of them. One was so happy, it was rolling on its back (yes, on it's back) gripping the rubber in its talons and digging in it with its beak. The one in the picture was more curious of people.
