Description:

Grows in the canopy - vines. In Spring great big purple flowers hand like grapes. Can kill trees by strangulation.

Some are more fragrant than others. I was in a car, so I don't know if this bunch was particularly fragrant. They are in bloom all over here right now.
If these flowers were wonderfully fragrant then my suggestion is wrong and the species is another Wisteria sp.
