Field Notes

Description:

Black moth like butterfly. About 10 cm in wingspan. First it just looked brown black and only on the pictures the blue became noticeble.

Habitat:

Our garden Phuket Thailand.

Notes:

We had lots of caterpillars around a few weeks ago and I am still hoing to connect them with one of the butterflies in our garden. Anyone an idea please look at my sottings ( talking about the beatle catterpillar)
Could it be this one?

Poor guy looks pretty worn. It is not a Blue, but a Nymphalidae. Might be Euthalia sp., and Euthalia monina, the male. You have to verify!! I am not sure about this one. ID is tricky in such old guys... http://www.samuibutterflies.com/insects/butterflies/nymphalinae/euthaliamoninamonina/
