Field Notes
Description:
bee. how you can tell which type of bee? it was big. it was pollinating flower after flower after flower. it didn't move very fast. it seemed to be ignoring me me.
Given its large size, it was either a bumble bee or a carpenter bee. It did not have an obvious yellow stripe.
Habitat:
bee. how you can tell which type of bee? it was big. it was more like a bumble bee. it was pollinating flower after flower after flower. it didn't move very fast. it seemed to be ignoring me. but it definitely seemed to be a pollinator.
note: after doing more research, I think it is a carpenter bee. It didn't have yellow stripe like bumble bee, but was more blue black like carpenter bee.
Notes:
in a plant in front of my house. I found out it was a Lantana bush that comes back every year. Carpenter bees are sometimes considered pests, because they can destroy wood structures building their nests. However, killing carpenter bees is also getting rid of pollinators, which is bad.
P.S. the smartphone app doesn't work. It tried to upload my spotting for like 30 minutes.
