Field Notes

Description:

The blue wildebeest is also known as the common wildebeest, white-bearded wildebeest, and bridled gnu. It is a large antelope, with males weighing up to 640 pounds and females up to 570 pounds. Males have darker coloration than females.

Habitat:

They prefer the open range and dry woodlands of both Southern and East Africa. They are herbivores.

Notes:

This specimen, together with numerous others, were seen at the Rhino & Lion Park outside Johannesburg.
