Description:
An extremelly flattened small crab belonging to family Porcellanidae. It has very broad pincers, rounded carapace and reaches some 15 mm in length. Its upper surface is sandy brown and very hairy, hairs trap silt.
Habitat:
Widespread in Mediterranean region. It usually sits under stones in shallow water, where silt and debris collect. It is a filter-feeding crab and it feeds on carrion and other organic debris
Notes:
It was caught by kids playing in shallow waters of island Lokrum, by accident; and released back (by those same children) when photographed. Island Lokrum, very close to Old City of Dubrovnik, is a Protected Natural Reserve.
