In Costa Rica there is a sanctuary for sloths by a woman who was given one that was injured. Later villagers seem to just bring sick, injured or abandoned babies to them and it keep getting bigger. http://www.slothsanctuary.com/welcome/
I don't know why the indian villagers had adopted the sloths, Bernadette.
two toed sloths have different face. And out of the 4 species of Three toed this one looks like the only one in Peru.
