Field Notes

Description:

Acorns still attached to an Oak tree but not sure which Oak species it is, hoping someone can tell by the leafs or acorns. These Oaks stand taller than most of the cabins on our road, easily over two-stories high.

Habitat:

Next to a one-lane private road, in full sunlight, less than 1/2 a city block away from a lake (Blanche Lake) and opposite a farm pasture on a hill

Notes:

I've seen and continue to watch for various birds I've seen fluttering around in these Oak Trees: Vireos, Cedar Waxwings, Warblers, etc... These are some of the tallest trees in our neighborhood and produce a huge crop of acorns that are food to: wild turkey, white-tailed deer, eastern gray squirrels, etc... I'm not sure what the birds eat that I've seen hopping around in their branches: insects or pollen perhaps?
