Field Notes

Description:

They are colored light gray, have at the thorax dark gray stripes.
On the abdomen a checkerboard-like pattern of light and dark gray squares. The red compound eyes are hairless.

Habitat:

They are mainly found along forest edges, but are rather light-loving (helio phil).

Notes:

The Grey flesh fly is how almost all flesh flies, viviparous (larvipar).
Larvae of the species evolve, probably exclusively, as parasitoids of earthworms. The adult fly often sits on intensely fragrant flowers and sucking the sweet juice.
