I'm in sask and wasn't sure if I could grow chives. Guess I'll have to look up more about it. I think we're a zone 2 or 3 here.

no I didn't noticed any smells but it did look like an onion

This looks like a type of wild onion, Allium sp. Did you notice any smell?
