Field Notes

Description:

Pink rounded front, black spot in middle, black body with yellow banding. Both male and female have a flashing yellow light. The female does not fly.

Notes:

This firefly is also called "big dipper firefly" and "pyralis firefly," after a fly fabled to have risen from fire.
