Currant Tree
Antidesma bunius
15.4558, 119.921
Field Notes
Description:
Malpighiales; Phyllanthaceae; Antidesma (L.) Spreng. This tree is in our front yard, but I am posting it on Project Noah because it is not a cultured tree, in that was not planted by us or even the previous owner of this land. This is a natural forest tree. Its exact age is not known, but from the information I can gather from local inhabitants of this area, it is at least 40 years old.
Habitat:
As explained in the description above, this tree is in our front yard and has stood here since long before there was a front yard or a house.
Notes:
This Antidesma bunius is the best tree that we have, Orchids grow on it and birds nest in it. It is inhabited by several species of Jumping Spiders and it provides fruits which are both decorative and delicious.
