Description:

Chubby little sparrows that spend most of their time hopping around the ground looking for food. They vary in colors across the country, this one being brownish gray with a black head.

Habitat:

Slightly forested area

No I've never seen the Latin terminology extend beyond the species ID. It would be classified as Junco hyemalis. There are about 5 subspecies of Juncos that haven't been classified as separate species yet.
So it would be a Junco hyemalis Oreganus?
Your spotting is actually the Oregon subspecies of the Dark-eyed Junco.
Good guess :) I live in South GA and this has been a nemesis for me. This will be the year ;)
