Field Notes

Description:

Purplish gills and edge of the caps with tan to brown caps and stipe.

Habitat:

Growing in the sand at the Maine Desert. There was likely some buried roots that we couldn't see that these were growing on.

Notes:

The Maine Desert is a very interesting place. Soil erosion caused by poor farming practices in the 17 and 1800s exposed glacial silt underneath, which is the sand you see here. Many of the trees there got partially buried and the lower branches that got buried became roots, something I didn't know was possible for many species.
