Field Notes

Description:

The inner part of the wings has black, orange and yellow stripes. The outer part presents complex drawings, alternating white, black, orange and reddish brown, and with ocelli on the hind wings. Males reach 65-75 mm in wing span and females 75-90 mm.
They are characterized by about six protuberances on the top of the head, similar to horns.

Habitat:

On the leaves of a pine tree on the rocky coast of Mazarrón.
It likes to stop on medium and high branches of trees and bushes, where it can spend minutes basking in the morning sun.
