Description:
Golden Buprestid when mature is a large jewel toned, metallic colored beetle. Golden Buprestid main color is brilliant metallic green with a red line along outer and inner margins of elytra. The elytra is protective wing-cases for the hindwings underneath. Surface sculpturing of elytra characterized by wide spaces separated by narrow ridges. Golden Buprestid have bronze coloring below the green and red body color.
Habitat:
Golden Buprestid are wood boring beetles. They live on trees, bushes and herbaceous plants. Found in areas of lumber,sawdust and mills.
In the Larval phase Golden Buprestid live in wood or bark of trunks, logs, branches and roots of many plants. In soil, eating roots of any kind of plants
Golden Buprestid are known for being a long lived species with a life span of 30 years or more.
Notes:
This very large Golden Buprestid had metallic jewel toned coloring in shades of bright greens,red,bronze and brilliant gold. It was exciting to see this eye catcher up close when it landed on our porch and walked around on the rail before flying back into the woods.
