Field Notes

Description:

Considered to be scarcely or rarely found in many of its regions, the Ghost Plant has no chlorophyll in its cells, which is why the plant lacks any green at all. Contrary to generating energy from sunlight, it is a parasitic myco-heterotroph. Its hosts are certain fungi that are mycorrhizal with trees, meaning it ultimately gets its energy from photosynthetic trees. All photos

Habitat:

Rare in areas of Asia, South America, and North America. Doesn't need direct sunlight to grow.
