Field Notes

Description:

A mainly yellow fungi growing on rotting wood and amongst lichen and moss. Image is approximately 40-50mm across. The fruiting bodies are close to the surface they are growing on and multi-convulted and generally described as gelatinous but these seemed firmer than that description. Some of the bodies are covered in a white fuzz which I believe may be the anamorphic yeast state

Habitat:

Found in NZ native bush, in younger forest. Growing on a dead log and interspersed between lichen moss and a small green fungi which is possibly its host, as this species are parasitic. Only seen in one patch on the side of the track.

Notes:

Would love any help with refining the species of this fungi

Hi remkinloch! This is not a Tremella sp. Tremella are much more gelatinous and do not have this "hairy" look. I'm thinking maybe Stereum
