Field Notes

Description:

Dark green Leafhopper with a faint blue tinge on the wing covers as well as a wide pale band down each side of the upper wings. The underside is pale and it has 2 orange stripes on the head between the eyes. This Leafhopper is fast, flying and jumping readily. It also is peculiar in that it likes to stand upright (almost vertical in the 3rd picture). About 5 mm in length, Family Cicadellidae.

Habitat:

Tall grasses and low shrubs in disturbed areas along the streets. Semi-rural residential area, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, 2,200 meters.
