Lesser_Stag_Beetle

My son finds these beetles at the playground. The substrate is wood chips. Below the surface it is moist. But they come on top at night. I know it's a ground beetle, but which kind? We want to keep as pets. But they die easily. So I'm not sure what to provide for habitat or diet.
