Awesome tree. Thank you for adding it to Bark's Stories.
Ah! I guess that's what makes it so 'limber'. :) I never considered how phototropism might influence growth. Thanks for the info! Like you, I guess we all get a bit twisted with age. ;)
Imagine as the sun passes along the sky, each leaf positions itself to face the sun. Sunflowers rotate to follow the sun. Branches may too. If the tree has not returned to original position, it is pushed further around each day and older trees may have more twisting in their trunks by this process. I get twisted with age too.
I wonder what caused it to grow all twisted like that?
very attractive, indeed ! - would love a little bit of warmth from your photo right now !! thanks for sharing..
Map coordinates are an estimate.....I didn't zoom into map completely.
Really nice spotting. Perhaps you could add the wiki link for people who want to quickly find out more about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limber_Pine
Hi cm.livingston.9, welcome to Project Noah. This looks like a very old tree; please make sure that your map co-ordinates for it are not too accurate to keep it safe. Thanks.
