Field Notes

Description:

Formerly referred to as Globovula margarita. They feed on soft coral and gorgonians, and grow to a length of about 1.5cm.

Habitat:

Found on coral and rocky reefs, usually on their host coral, Dendronephthya. Widespread in the West Pacific, at depths of 5 to 30m.

Notes:

This shell of this mollusk was very tiny -- less than a centimeter long! I spotted it at a depth of about 15m at Isla Reta Beach Resort, during a night dive. The last photo shows two more cowries in the same small patch of soft coral, which they were apparently feeding on.
