Field Notes

Description:

Adult male 2.2mm. Raised from the egg sac of a female collected at the given location. Date given is hatching date. Notice the two pairs of dark spots on the anterior abdomen. The anterior-most pair is separated more widely than the pair immediately posterior. So far I have found that this is indicative of Mecaphesa celer in both males and females (though females all of one color need not have these spots). However, other Mecaphesa, such as Mecaphesa rothi, have these spots plus many more, so the emphasis of just these four may be critical to the ID.

Habitat:

Collected his mom from a yellow flower.
