Field Notes

Description:

Try to guess where it's head is. This large caterpillar is laying still on the ground. Almost 50mm in length. Green body color with red hairs and long white hairs, making it have a cactus appearance. At the tip of the tail (photo 2) it has 2 short "horns" while there is another hand-like "horns" growing near it's head (photo 1).

Habitat:

Plants in the garden of Bukit Gemuk (Fat Hill), Tawau, Sabah.

Notes:

>>>Map accuracy: 100m diameter. First day outing with Dan in the wild! Spotted 2 large caterpillars crawling on the stars as soon as we entered the park gate. This is the second big caterpillar, the first one - http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/155616019 Special thanks to Keith Wolfe for identifying this as a green variant (last instar) caterpillar of Amathusia phidippus

Moved the middle pic to the first place. It is really good in concealing it's head.
