Field Notes

Description:

Slender, long-legged and elegant in silhouette, the avocet is one of our most striking waders, both for its coloration and for the curious beak it sports, one of the few of all birds that curves upwards. Despite the fact that it is a sedentary species in our territory, in Spain we also receive a large number of wintering birds, which preferentially settle in marshes, salt flats and coastal wetlands.

Habitat:

It was in the Salinas de San Pedro del Pinatar (Murcia) where they winter and have settled.
