Field Notes

Description:

Large mushrooms with broadly convex caps about 200mm wide. The caps were white and covered with small brown scales arranged in concentric rings all the way to the centre. the centre was a darker brown. A younger mushroom was lying on its side revealing crowded pale brown gills. The stipe appeared smooth except for a ring about halfway down. the base of the stipe looked like it had been deeply "rooted".

Habitat:

seen growing in a garden in leaf litter amongst giant Monstera plants.

Notes:

This is the largest gilled mushroom I've ever seen ..
