This one in the link from Gettyimages is very similar to mine! http://www.gettyimages.ca/detail/photo/purplish-copper-british-columbia-canada-high-res-stock-photography/78016193
So I am looking at another spotting of mine from the same location which I ID'ed as a possible male Purplish Copper and thinking it is very pale compared to this possible female: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/1777366002 but I still think it is the right ID. Any comments on this one?
Thanks for all the ID suggestions and help. I really appreciate it! Busy, yes, I understand, bayucca. But even if I don't get the time to look at all the links you have included here right now, I will pursue it eventually and learn from them. Thanks too Paul and James!
Apoolgize Paul, but I hat to make a pause yesterday evening due to a meeting and had no time to post my comment with all the links. But it seems that we had the same candidate. :-) @Kathleen: To answer your question @ bayucca - is this an easier one to ID? Not really ;-)
Lycaenidae, Lycaeninae, Lycaena sp., so a Copper Butterfly, and looks like being Lycaena helloides. However, there is a complete mess with the common names of Purplish Copper, which is sometimes also Lycaena dorcas. Some mean theat Dorcas is just a southern segregate from Helloides. So, please, verify and/or ask a local copper crack to confirm. I add some links which also might help. I am a little bit too busy to check them for hours ;-)... http://www.gettyimages.ca/detail/photo/purplish-copper-british-columbia-canada-high-res-stock-photography/78016193 http://butterfliesofamerica.com/imagehtmls/Lycaenidae/Lycaena_helloides_f2d2_USA_COLORADO_Douglas_Co._E_Cherry_Ck._at_Palmer_Divide_Rd._31-VIII-1996_i.htm http://bugguide.net/node/view/12867 http://www.cbif.gc.ca/eng/species-bank/butterflies-of-canada/purplish-copper/?id=1370403265740 http://bugguide.net/node/view/12867/bgpage http://butterfliesofamerica.com/lycaena_helloides.htm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Lycaena_helloides_fem.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lycaena_helloides http://bugguide.net/node/view/9673 http://butterfliesofamerica.com/imagehtmls/Lycaenidae/Lycaena_dorcas_castro_F_Guanella_Pass_Park_Co_CO_USA_19-VII-09_110_i.htm Another similar one would be Lycaena nivalis?? http://butterfliesofamerica.com/lycaena_nivalis_w_cascade_seg.htm http://butterfliesofamerica.com/lycaena_nivalis_w_cascade_seg_specimens.htm http://bugguide.net/node/view/709328/bgimage
