Field Notes

Description:

Alydidae; Micrelytrinae; Leptocorisini; Leptocorisa acuta (Thunberg, 1783). This bug's common name is usually shown as Paddy Bug or Paddy Earhead Bug, but the article in the University of Florida's "Featured Creature" series calls it "Rice Bug" followed by the words "suggested common name". This, obviously implies that it does not have an "official" common name. However, the article lays out lots of information about this bug. So, whether you are a farmer, a student of entomology or just an amateur naturalist, like me, everything you might want to know is there. This bug is a pest of rice. It is crepuscular. It is yellow/green to yellow/brown. It is slender, adults being about 14 to 17 mm. long and 3 to 4 mm. The distribution list includes the Philippines.....and lots more.

Habitat:

This Rice Bug was spotted resting on an unidentified plant in our backyard.

Notes:

If you want to find information on any of your creatures, to help with your Project Noah Spottings, try this link: https://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/..... it will open the University of Florida's Featured Creatures search facility.
