Field Notes

Description:

This cheeky chappie was happy bouncing around his perch and singing away at Shapwick Nature Reserve, Somerset.

I managed to capture this photo prior to him flying off.

Robins can grow to approximately 14cm. They have a brown back and wings with a red face and breast.
Young have speckly brown breasts.

The robins call is loud and fast like a 'tic tic tic' sound. They cable be heard throughout the year with the exception of a few weeks during mid summer.

Robins feed on insects, spiders and invertebrates, they will also feed on small seeds and fruits. They adore mealworms and may even feed from your hand.

Robins nests are like a cup of leaves and moss. Lined with fine roots and/or hair and are happy to move into open nest boxes on the garden.

These delightful little birds are common almost everywhere in the Britain and can be very territorial.

Habitat:

Woods, hedgerows, parks and gardens. Marsh - Nature Reserve

Notes:

Very trusting, allowed me to get very close. Was surprised as this was a rural bird.

A winters day but nice sunny spells that pushed the temp up to approximately 12 deg C
