Field Notes

Description:

The shiny cowbird - which we call "tordo" - is around 19 cm big. The male (as the one in the picture) is all black with a certain blue and purple gloss.
They don´t make its own nest, they use other bird´s ones.

Habitat:

It lives around Southamerica. The one in the picture is in the school´s ground in Montevideo, Uruguay. It is a very common bird in Uruguay.

Notes:

There weren´t shiny cowbirds at school until we started placing seeds. Once we placed the seeds the cowbirds steadily started appearing and eating from them. We recycled plastic bottles by making bird feeders (each child created its own design) and now the school is full of birds eating from them =).
