Field Notes

Description:

Large beetle, ~45 mm length, black head, thorax and abdomen. Female, by the size of the mandibles.

Habitat:

This one was found on a pathway in a deciduous forest.

Notes:

I've seen very few L. cervus this year, so I was happy to see this one too, especially because I had the camera with me. There are less and less of them each year in my area. When I was a kid, we were running on the streets to avoid them, there were so many flying...
