Field Notes

Description:

Low growing thistle with artichoke sized cream colored flower that rises up no more than 6-8 inches from the ground when in bloom

Habitat:

edges of Eagle Lake a large, alkali lake in high desert pine country in Northern California

Notes:

As far as I can tell this plant does not get tall like the similar (and purple flowered) elk thistle.
