Description:
The leaves are thick and fleshy, green to grey-green, with some varieties showing white flecks on the upper and lower stem. The margin of the leaf of an Aloe Vera is serrated and has small white teeth.
Habitat:
Thought to be of the Mediterranean, but the exact native habitat of Aloe Vera is unknown.
Notes:
-It is used for relieving sunburns, minor burns, wrinkles, insect bites, skin irritations, cuts and scratches. There is also a tea that can be made from the dried sap of the Aloe Vera that is said to make a good wash for wounds and the eyes. It is found today in many hand lotions and other skin care products.
-Aloe Vera is starting to be used as a food preservative. There are 250 species of the plant, which are native to Africa. The plant is so powerful that researchers and scientists are looking into its potential as an AIDS and cancer fighter. Aloe can reduce tissue damage from frostbite.
