Description:

I took this photo a long time ago and have yet to ID it. It doesn't look like any Red-Backed Salamander I have ever seen before or since.

Species ID Suggestions

Ravine salamander

Red-back - Lead phased. It is to far out of range for Valley and Ridge or Ravine. It only has 18 coastal grooves.
How exactly do we figure this out? Count grooves on it's side? Perhaps?
The white spots could be parasites or bubbles
Not a Northern Dusky. I know those....I know all of the salamanders in my area until this one came up.
I like mysteries but hate when they are tough to solve.
The feet are way too small for that....I considered a Ravine Salamander or Valley & Ridge but neither shows a range this far east.
The blue flecks and the other coloration make me think it might be a very young Jefferson's salamander. (??) http://www.paherps.com/herps/salamanders/jeffersons_salamander
