Field Notes

Description:

small mouse, spotted near the edge of Convict Lake in Mammoth Lakes, CA

Notes:

I was fishing in the lake when just inches behind me I heard rustling. It kept going in and out of the grass and rocks and moving. I was able to stay still long enough to take the pictures so close.

Long tail I know short tail is voles. I know it wasn't a vole. It was running back an forth just a foot behind me while I was fishing.
I think this is a Meadow Vole (aka meadow mouse). Were you able to see the tail?
