Field Notes

Description:

This species is found worldwide in the warm waters of tropical and temperate seas, floating at the surface. They are often found in large groups and sometimes become stranded on beaches when they are blown ashore by strong winds. All these shells were spotted and collected at Island bay, along with some portuguese man 'o war, and spirula shells (wich are equally fragile).

Dear @VivBraznell, the ones I found (except from a single one), were all empty...The other one, it was broken and it contained a dead animal, with no "bubbles"...It looks like it's the same species, mine and yours, only that mine are darker in color :)
Found these washed up along the shoreline on the island of Koh Samui in October 2006 - http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7683033
You are correct, dear @Jill Black, so let's hope weather will settle soon, and we'll be able to go back to the beach for more sightings:) And thank you for your comment :))
Great spotting Despina with all the wild weather we have had there are lots of finds at the moment

Nice to know you too, dear @Adarsha :) And you can befriend me in FB, if you d' like, just use my name and you 'll find me easily :)
Oh..thats great,,I want to read about ur work more than seeing photos!...Anyway nice hobbies you are having..Very nice to know you!
Thank you for the nice comments, dear Adarsha, truth is that I have more pics in my FB profile, but the collections are not visible to everyone, for professional reasons... And I am Greek, but the last 4 years I am living with my family in NZ...
I just seen your jewel collection in your Blog..Amazing works..As i dont know ur native language, I just enjoyed the photos!
Oh really! Then a new jewellary may enter into the market! Trust me, girls are going to love it! See the exploration of project noah to one more field!
Unfortunately, dear @Adarsha, it's too fragile to be used in jewellery, and, guess what, I am a qualified jeweller myself! Anyway, I will try to figure a way how to use it, because it's really unique, and I 'd like to create something that will retain their beauty for ever :)
Hmm...wen we roam around a beach we find all other colours...But never seen a violet snail! That to so tiny :) It can be used as a Jewel i think !
Beautiful spotting Despina! Never seen violet snails!
Yes, it's a really beautiful color, and my daughters want to go to that beach as soon as the weather settles, to collect some more shells :)
beautiful and interesting. Thanks for the information and sharing this.
